Competition to select participants for the training of the "Global Program for Laboratory Leaders/Managers".
The Centre for Retraining and Advanced Training of Personnel in the Field of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health of the Committee of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan is announcing a competition for the selection of participants for the purpose of training on the "Global Program for Laboratory Leaders/Managers".
This program is implemented in cooperation with the World Health Organization.
Studying according to the program is free of charge.
Program description:
Laboratories are an integral and important part of the healthcare system and play an important role in the detection, diagnosis, treatment and control of diseases. Establishing sustainable national laboratory systems as an integral part of public health systems, a long-term effort, capable of managing laboratories under challenging conditions, building strong, interoperable networks for optimal protection of health, animals and public health at all levels of the public health system laboratory requires leaders/leaders.
However, most laboratory leaders/supervisors do not have adequate specialized training in leadership and management. To effectively train and train professionals, a comprehensive and competency-based curriculum is required that can be used as a foundation for leadership and laboratory management training programs worldwide.
That's why six leading organizations - the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (SDS), the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ESDS), the US Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) - have come together for human and animal health laboratories and professionals working in laboratories "Global Program for Laboratory Leaders/Managers" (GLLP) was developed. The basis for GLLP is man, is a competency model aimed at harmonizing and developing a global consensus on essential competencies for laboratory management relevant to animal and environmental health and other related sectors.
This program is based on nine competencies:
- Management ("Combating Corruption" and "Single Health" modules);
- Communication;
- Biosecurity and biosecurity;
- Quality management system;
- Leadership;
- Surveillance of diseases and investigation of epidemic situations;
- Emergency preparedness;
- Scientific research;
- Laboratory system.
The program is expected to last for two years - 2025-2026. During the training, the participants fully master the nine competencies, as well as write a dissertation.
GLLP's mission is to develop and facilitate the leadership of existing and new laboratory leaders to build, strengthen, and sustain national laboratory systems.
Duration and format of training for 2025:
4 weeks of face-to-face training, 5 weeks of online training, project and on-the-job assignments (online).
The expected number of course participants is 20 people.
Industry participants include:
- 12-16 people from the health sector (public health and other medical laboratories);
- 2-4 people from the veterinary field;
- 2-4 people on environmental protection.
Mandatory conditions – qualifications required of participants:
- Specialists of the state organization with higher education and certificate/diploma in laboratory sciences from three sectors - human health, animal and environmental protection;
- Having at least 3 years of experience in a laboratory, more precisely in a leadership position;
- Commitment to training and program implementation;
- Good knowledge of Russian and Uzbek languages;
- Basic knowledge of English;
- Computer literacy;
- Ability to work in a team;
- Communication skills.
Procedure for selecting participants.
To participate in the contest, you must:
- Interview on quality management system, biosafety and biosecurity issues.
- According to the results of the interview, the ranking of the program candidates is made separately in three sectors. In case of equal powers and qualifications of the candidates, preference is given to the candidate with more powers (work experience, recommendations, etc.).
